Why are they so addicting?

Do you have a facebook? A twitter? Do you watch television? If you answered yes to any of these questions, are you addicted to them? Did you know that there are 500 million active users on Facebook? On twitter there a 200 million active users and 97 people will join or have joined just today. Just in the U.S. there are 240 million people watching TV at this very moment. Why though?

For twitter, it's the simplicity. It's so easy to let people know what you're doing strait from a text. There aren't very many things to do on there, which makes it less "annoying" for some people. Yes, twitter doesn't have as many users as facebook, but even the users for facebook are annoyed with it (like me), and facebook also started out earlier that twitter by 2 years. I like twitter so I know what's going on in my friends lives and I don't need to have a huge amount of people following me either. People that use twitter more than 20 times in a month tend to get more addicted than those that only get on once in a while, so that may be the cause huh?

Facebook is a little more addictive than twitter (at least for me), but I've had it longer and I also use it for school too. Some of my teachers have facebook pages to update students on what's going on in class and what we have for homework. Facebook is place where you can talk to friends easily. Facebook's also the most popular website in America, how it got this popular though people don't know for sure, but there a few possibilities. 1. The social network. 2. People telling their friends about it. 3. easy to use. Whatever it is, we all know we're a little addicted.

Television has been around for a while, and almost everyone single household in the U.S. has one. It used to be rare to have a TV not too long ago, but now you're rare if you don't have one. There are so many television shows and movies out there and people can be so lazy and watch TV for hours. If you don't have cable though, it could be a little boring because you don't have much to choose from. Studies show that if younger kids watch TV more than 12 hours a week they will become addicted when they get older. Watching TV shortens your life span, not by damaging your brain, but by lack of exercise. So if you jog in place, lift weights, or do some other form of exercise you should be okay. Knowing what's going on in the world is also a major factor to addiction, but for adults. People want to know what's going on in their communities and the environment that they watch the news for about an hour and then after that they have a popular show come on and then you want to watch that too. So every show you watch just keeps leading you to addiction.

If you think you're addicted to the computer or TV go outside and doing something, if you're not still go out and do something active to increase your life span. Don't sit around being lazy because that's not helping you accomplish anything. For me, when I'm done with homework I'm going to go hang outside for a while and be active.. unless it's too cold. (:
